PROCESS

1. Discovery
The most successful experiences and products begin by establishing a deep understanding. This comes from conversations, knowledge transfers, analysis, research and interviews, which get transformed into use cases, requirements, ideas, documentation and white-boarding.
2. UX
White-boarding, information architecture, wireframes, flows, personas, and more can be created to give the project it’s “true north”. All efforts start to be performed through the lens of the user which ultimately brings simplicity, delight, and elegance to the created user experience.
3. UI
The final visualization of all previous work is crafted into design comps. No matter how good the wireframes and sitemaps are the UI is the layer users interact with. A beautiful, clear, consistent, simple, and intuitive interface that meets the mix of business and user needs is the goal.
4. Prototype / Test
Prototypes allow users to experience the project exposing any unforeseen issues. Several test methods can be used such as moderated testing for large scale projects and short A/B surveys for small features and improvements. Collaborate, validate, iterate, and repeat.
5. Development
A good UX/UI designer knows the implications of design on development and should be able to speak the developers language to learn, and later, transfer the UX and UI appropriately. A number of tools are used to deliver specifications which bring the project to life.
6. Iterate
The work is never really done. Keep testing users, see how everything came together, check analytics, expose frustration points, areas of improvement and keep learning! The process is a journey. Start from the beginning, re-discover, iterate and improve.

TESTIMONIALS

Ben Jones

Eric isn’t just a very talented designer -he is much, much more! Eric takes the time to understand the user journey from every point of view. This helps to locate potential gaps in requirements. Then he will craft screens and user journey flows that are well thought out and balanced. Next he’ll bring the comps to the application’s users and gain valuable feedback he can incorporate back into his designs. With the help of his user testing and insights gained we were able to collectively build a better product by constantly iterating between the design & prototyping phase.

Working with Eric at Razorfish was a delightful experience. Eric is a great communicator and an amazing artist and UX master. I could always count on Eric to over deliver on creative while doing it on time and within budget. What I most like about Eric is that he is objective, calm, and rational when things get crazy. I would love to work with him again!

I have worked with Eric on and off since 2001 and highly recommend him. I first met him when I hired him at Media Arts Group where he had many roles including art direction, presentation layer development, and even some UX design for a ton of projects varying from online ads to 3-tier web sites. Eric is a veritable Swiss Army knife. He is extremely talented, incredibly efficient, and super fun to work with.

Eric understands the meaning of “The Medium is the Message”. That is, Eric is always going to measure his creative against the task that the user is trying to acomplish and make sure that the design is in line with those goals. He is a smart problem solver.
